Vehicle owners often think taking care of their personal vehicle requires very little on their part. Why? Well, of course, television and advertisements everywhere will lead us to believe this. You know, “add this liquid to the engine and it’ll run forever!” or “this iodized potion will keep your interior looking new for 10 years without any upkeep!” This is all silly, really. In an age where everything seems easier than reality, we all want to believe there is nothing left for us to do to keep our cars and trucks in tip-top shape.
But, alas we do need to give our vehicles some TLC to keep them running for years to come.
Not to worry, though; caring for your vehicle can be easy—but you will need to carve out a bit of your time every now and then to do so. Here at Preferred Automotive, we can take on the majority of the time and effort! All you have to do is schedule an appointment with us here in Rockville, MD, and we’ll handle the rest.
Ok, so what are the quick and easy maintenance items you need to keep on top of to maintain a healthy car or truck? Keep reading!
Item #1: oil
Have the vehicle’s oil checked and changed regularly. Nothing else you do for your vehicle will keep it “alive” longer and with better performance. Further, having the oil changed as needed (which varies between 4,000-10,000 miles, depending on the vehicle and type of driving you do) will prevent other expensive and preventable issues from developing.
Item #2: brake system
This is at the top of the list of safety precautions and includes regularly replacing your tires when the tread becomes too low. Brake pads and brake fluid are inexpensive to replace and tires don’t need replacing too often, if rotated often. Rotors, calipers, hoses, and sensors are expensive—so keep up with this!
Item #3: grease job
Everything that moves in your vehicle needs grease to survive. As silly as it may feel to schedule a “grease job,” call our professionals and get yours scheduled! There’s no sense in having to replace anything due to poor lubrication.
Item #4: cleanliness
Believe it or not, this really will help your car live longer. Don’t just focus on the parts you can see—the underside of your car or truck houses a lot of important parts and debris buildup, packed snow, road salt, etc. can really do a number on it, causing corrosion you don’t want to pay to combat.
Item #5: air filter
Your car or truck can’t breathe properly without a clean air filter. At a minimum, you want to have this replaced every 1-3 years (depending on how many yearly miles you put on).
Above all else, drive responsibly! Your car or truck will exceed your expectations if you treat it well: drive the speed limit, stop slowly whenever possible, take turns nicely, avoid potholes… And, when you need a auto maintenance Rockville, MD , checkup, grease job, oil change, or repair of any kind—stop on by and visit us at Preferred Automotive!
